Stewartry Sportive cycling event

The Stewartry Sportive cycling event is on Sunday 8 July and as last year we will be doing the catering to raise funds for the club.

We have enough volunteers for the actual day but we do need cakes, traybakes etc.

If you can help by baking could you please let Christine Carson or Judith Simpson know asap.

Kirkcudbright Country Fair

Kirkcudbright Country Fair will be on 14th/15th July and we will be having a stand promoting the club, displaying turned objects for sale and demonstrating using one of the small lathes.

If you can help over the weekend please let a member of the committee know, We are looking for teams of three to man the stand in half day shifts (12 people ideally).

If you have objects for sale please bring them along to the club – they should be named and priced. The club will take a small 5% fee on the selling price to cover costs.

The August meeting is yet to be decided and in September Chas, who was to have given a demonstration about “A beginners Journey”, has now declined. So we have two meeting to fill – if you have any thoughts on what you would like to see please let me know tonight.

This will be on Saturday the 18th August Tickets available from the shop – £15 including lunch

We have had the offer from Mick Hanbury for a demonstration in October. As he was so well received last time he was with us we have agreed to book him for Sunday 14th October – More details later

Fund Raising

The Stewartry Sportive cycling event is on Sunday 8 July. And as last year we have been asked to do the catering. We have enough volunteers on the day but we need members to provide cakes etc. If you can help with baking please see either Christine or Judith tonight.

 GDPR and Us. – In line with the European Directive, the clubs Privacy Policy is now published on the Club Web Site and on the notice board. In October when you renew your membership you will be asked to sign that you agree with the club holding your contact information in line with our policy.

Club Officers – At our April Committee meeting I indicated that I will be standing down as Chair in October. Subsequently David has also said he will be standing down as Secretary. So we will be looking for two people to take over from out AGM in October. If you would like to suggest someone, or volunteer yourself please let a member of the committee know.

Data Protection Policy

As you will no doubt be aware last week saw the introduction of the Data Protection Policy Regulations, and I’m sure were all pretty tired of it already!

Galloway Woodturners in line with other clubs and groups that store information regarding their members have to have a policy on how to protect that information.

The Galloway Woodturners Date protection policy is now published under the library section of this website and will also be displayed on the notice board at the club.

When you renew your membership in October you will be asked to sign that you have given the club authorisation to use you information in line with this policy.

Information will be held up to one year after membership has lapsed after which all records will be erased.

Better Bowls Workshops

Thanks to everyone who has previously attended one of my two Better Bowls Workshops this year.

I have had a request for another, Ladies only, workshop. This will probably happen at the end of July, or beginning of August, and I have high hopes for really good things to come from this one.

There have been a few members who I could not accommodate on the course tomorrow, so I would like to run another workshop towards the end of August or September. Have a think about this and let me know over the next few weeks if this interests you.
