The competition for next month is your new name badge

Don’t forget that next month is our AGM so the meeting will start at 6.30pm with a short business meeting. If you wish to volunteer to serve on the Committee then please let me know asap. The subs’ will also be due next month so bring your cheque book.

Inter club Competition – This will take place on Saturday 29th October at Border Woodturners. We need five entries from the club. If you haven’t submitted an entry you have until the October meeting when the decision on our entries will be made. We need five entries from five different members.

Professional Demonstrations  –

The demonstration by Eugene Grimley was very well received to the extent that we intend to ask him back next year for a mid-week demo and a Master Class the following day.

Next year we have booked:

Margaret Garrard –        Saturday 7th April Demonstration

Sunday 8th April master Class

Margaret has demonstrated at the club before and was well received when she last visited

Emma Cook, The Tiny Turner  Saturday 2nd June – Demonstration

David spoke to Emma at Harrogate and was impressed with her work.

Joey Richardson Saturday 18th August – Demonstration

Joey is an internationally respected turner and sculptor who has exhibited all round the world.  I hope we can give her a warm welcome in Castle Douglas.

2019-David is currently looking at booking Demonstrators for 2019. If there is someone you would like us to book please see David Simpson ASAP

Strathclyde Woodturners   Have a demonstration by Andrew Hall on Saturday 23rd September. If anyone is interested in going along, please see me this evening.

Border Woodturners Have Colwin Way, who runs courses at Axminster, demonstrating this Sunday If any one wishes to go please let me know and perhaps we can car share.

Fractal/Lichenberg Pyrography: Be aware of the extreme risks!!.

The AWGB executive have reviewed the recent events relating to the use of high voltage equipment to produce Lichtenberg figures also know as fractal pyrography. A policy has been formulated which is available to view on the notice board. Also included is the policy of the AAW which is more in depth.
