Oak Tree Down!

Anyone available with a chainsaw on the first weekend in Jan?

There’s an oak tree down near Crossmichael that the club can have if (a) we want it and (b) we can get it!

There is a big trunk with a base of about 2 feet diameter and there are numerous branches that would be big enough for turning.

I don’t see any problem with trimming the branches off, but getting the trunk back to the main road might be difficult. There are no obstacles but there is only a small track nearby and I’m not sure what transport it would take.

  1. Sorry if anyone has been trying to leave a comment – it should now be working.

    The arrangements are as follows:
Where: Danevale, DG7 2LP – about a mile south of Crossmichael on the A713. I’ll aim to get there early and put our sandwich board out by the gates.
When: Saturday 4th Jan at 1pm
Who: we have five people and three chainsaws confirmed so far but there’s a fair amount of tree to shift so the more the merrier.

If anyone wants more info, give me a ring on my mobile 07590 695199.

  3. Well today went well and we managed to get a ton or two of green oak down to the club. There is still a lot of small branch wood left that we need to clear asap (so that the grounds is clear for the annual Snowdrop weekend at Danevale) so there’s some free firewood going to anyone who fancies helping out.

I will be there for an hour at 10am tomorrow (Sunday 5th Jan) if anyone wants to come and help clear up, otherwise I’ll try and arrange something fro the following weekend.

John T – there is no chance of getting any kind of lorry or lifting gear down to the wood I’m afraid, moving it is all down to manual labour.

  4. ok phill i comeing along not that ill be much use but iam good with the coments ,no,ill bring my other brother inlaw as he needs some fire wood an can help out see yu back o ten

  5. 10am Saturday 11 Jan anyone?

So we’ve got two large logs left to tackle plus a section above the root if we want it. The weather is looking good for tomorrow so I propose being down there in the morning.

There is a lot of cutting required before we can move any of it so if anyone with a chainsaw wants to be there from 10am we may need extra hands to start moving it from about 11am.

Happy to move it to the afternoon if that suits people better.
