Happy New Year everyone!
Last year I made a new year resolution to enter every competition of 2022. I wasn’t aiming to win or anything, I just wanted to give myself a bit of a push. A year on and I think I’ve achieved the following:
- Did more turning
- Tried lots of things I wouldn’t have tried otherwise
- Contributed to the interesting turnings that members can see at club meetings
- Improved my turning enormously
I think I’ll try and do the same again in 2023 and it would be great if this inspires more members to do the same, especially if you’re only a beginner.
Remember it’s not about winning, it’s just about taking part, trying new things and improving over the year.
Good luck and best wishes for the new year,
Phil J

Well done for keeping to your resolution Phil! Hope 2023 is kind to you and all our club members.
Very few resolutions are kept, and we are very glad you kept yours, because not only did it do you a power of good but we all benefited from seeing your skills and talents. We were encouraged and motivated to follow your example of producing quality woodturnings while enhancing our own skills. Even though I saw a few ‘previews’ of your next month’s competition entry, and therefore knew I had no chance of competing against that, I still made something to put on the table. Well done, keep up the good work. Wishing you, and all members of Galloway Woodturners, an exceptionally healthy and Happy New Year.
