Free Yew in Newton Stewart

I received an email and ‘phone call yesterday from a Roger Macdonald who was a friend of Club member David Wright. His email is self explanatory and is copied below.

He writes    ‘I am not a turner, but make natural wood sculptures. And have an eye for any pieces of interesting wood.

Last Saturday I went to Newton Stewart Museum, situated in an ex-church, in York Road. Some one had been cutting back SOME YEW TREES — SOME BRANCHES AROUND 6INS DIAMETER. When I asked what they were going to do with the branches, they said the Council were supposed to be collecting them, taking them to Stranraer, cut them up for firewood logs. All that will cost money. I reckon some of your club members could use the yew.’

If anyone is able to go and collect some or all of this wood, please let me know so that I can tell Roger.

P.S. I’d like a couple of big bits suitable for hollow forms.
