Apologies!

Our apologies to everyone who’s been bombarded with emails from us in the last few days. The site is supposed to send notifications whenever a new item is posted and people have been complaining for a while that they haven’t been getting them. We’ll it seems that they’ve all been sitting in a queue (with some items dating back to 2020) and when we restarted the service it started working through the backlog. I stopped the service this morning and found out how to clear the backlog so hopefully everything should now be working properly.

Apologies again, and please visit the site to see if you’ve missed any recent posts.

Regards, Phil Jones

Facebook

We have a web site and Facebook account, both do roughly the same thing but in slightly different ways. Many people find Facebook quicker and easier to use, while others like the traditional way of accessing information in a ‘wider’ way rather than the ‘linear’ way Facebook works.

It would be great if you would make yourself a link on the front/home page of your computer/ table/ phone/ smart fridge.

Professional Turner Peter Osborn visits Galloway Woodturners

Tuesday 9th April 2019 (next Tuesday’s club night) sees Peter Osborn, professional demonstrator, entertain, enlighten and inspire us.

Please make a special effort to come along, and feel free to bring a friend, or spouse/partner for a most interesting demonstration.

If you want to know more about Peter a good starting point would be the web site of the Register of Professional Turners. https://www.registerofprofessionalturners.co.uk/turners/pete-osborn/

There are still a couple of places available for his Masterclass the following day Wednesday 10th April, and I would love it if you could be part of the day’s teaching by Peter. Jimmy has tickets in the shop, so message him, or see him right at the start of the Tuesday demonstration to get your ticket.

Turning Tuesday, and Wednesdays

The club is open Tuesday evenings, and Wednesday afternoon and evenings for paid up Club Members to use club facilities.

The purpose is for members to use the club lathes and specialist tools in the company of other club members, and in so doing can call upon other turners for advice and assistance. These sessions are not for teaching or any form of training, classes are on Thursdays.

We are happy for non members to call in and see what we are about and see what we do, but it should be clearly understood that our insurance does not allow non members to use our equipment. Woodturning can be dangerous and we care about our members and visitors, and want them to have a fun, safe experience, therefore we would like all club members, and course participants, to demonstrate a basic knowledge of workshop safety before they use any club machinery or tools.

Visitors should therefore not expect to have-a-go when they come, but our members will be happy to show them what can be done, and if the visitors like what they see we can sign them up for a Taster Course, Introduction to Woodturning Course, or other courses as appropriate from one of our qualified tutors.

Welcome to our new website!

OK, so it’s the same website except that it has now been moved to a new hosting company called Go Daddy after our existing hosts announced they were shutting up shop. In the process I seem to have lost the last three comments made (sorry!) but everything should be the same as it was.

The change has resulted in us having a lot more storage available for pictures so I’m hoping we can start building up a gallery of work by members and maybe even have a gallery dedicated to the club competition entries.

If you have any other ideas for what we might put on the site just leave a reply or let me know in person.

Cheers, Phil J
