Next Club night 14th February

Looking forward to our next club meeting. TUESDAY 14TH FEBRUARY. Our very own wee Phil Jones demonstrating “Purchase something from a charity shop, enhance it through woodturning and increase its value.”
Also on 14th  February the competition item will be a Valentine item, so you still have time to create something.
It seems ages since we had a club meeting, although Turning Tuesdays and Wednesdays have continued (thanks to all those that came along).

Wednesday afternoon workshop opening.

Since the turn of the year, only one other person has been coming to the Wednesday afternoon workshop sessions.

We have both agreed that it is not worth opening the workshop for the two of us, so I propose that after this coming Wednesday, we give it a break until Easter, or at least until the weather gets warmer.

If there’s a demand for continued opening, I’m happy to change my mind.

Best wishes,

David

Snainton Woodturning

Many of us will know Snainton Woodturning, a family business, and the wide range of products that are of interest to us. My last order from them was just a few weeks ago. Sadly they are closing down for personal reasons and they are having to clear their stock, subsequently there are some substantial discounts to be had.

Click on the link above to see what is on offer, plainly they can only sell what they have, will not be reordering, and when it is gone it’s gone.

Lidl lathe

There will be a mini lathe going on sale in Lidl branches from Sunday 15th January. It might be of interest to someone just starting their woodturning journey. P.S. the included chisels are probably close to useless.

New Year Resolution

Happy New Year everyone!

Last year I made a new year resolution to enter every competition of 2022. I wasn’t aiming to win or anything, I just wanted to give myself a bit of a push. A year on and I think I’ve achieved the following:

  1. Did more turning
  2. Tried lots of things I wouldn’t have tried otherwise
  3. Contributed to the interesting turnings that members can see at club meetings
  4. Improved my turning enormously

I think I’ll try and do the same again in 2023 and it would be great if this inspires more members to do the same, especially if you’re only a beginner.

Remember it’s not about winning, it’s just about taking part, trying new things and improving over the year.

Good luck and best wishes for the new year,
Phil J

Christmas show at Artists and Makers shop

A special Christmas show has just opened in Gallery 141 at the Artists and Makers shop, 141 King Street, Castle Douglas. Phil H is a member of the co-operative that runs this shop and the shops in Kirkcudbright and Gatehouse.

A few pictures to show the range of goodies with plenty more variety in the main shop. A good place to find an unusual gift for that ‘difficult to buy for’ person.
