Woodturning Magazine

I have been asked by Mark Baker, the editor of “Woodturning” for a picture of “members work” for an article we are putting together.

As we don’t have a collective picture of members work could I ask that members bring along a piece of their work next Tuesday so that we can photograph them for the magazine.

Good clean green Sycamore

A friend of mine has a recently felled Sycamore which is similar to the one he provided for our Andrew Hall masterclass.

The trunk will yield quite a few blanks of 200 – 250mm diameter and he will cut to lengths required if they are all done at the same time, (soon!).

His price would be £4 per 125mm length.

If any members are interested in one or more blanks please contact me either before or at our club meeting next Tuesday (10th October).

If there is no interest he is prepared to get a tub of PVA and do some slow seasoning and see if that generates interest in the future.

Wood Prep – Sunday Morning, 3rd Sept

This month’s wood prep session is in the morning, nominally between 9am and 12 noon.

We’ll have a sawmill so the main aim is to plank and stack all the logs currently lying under the tarp in the car park.

Secondary aims including converting existing planks into blanks with the bandsaw and maybe tackling the last of the ash trunks round at Irvings bakery, for which chainsaws and PPE will be required.

Request for help!

I have recently inherited a fair number of turning blanks (spindle & bowl). Some are labelled but I’m trying to identify the rest. If anyone with experience of the types of wood that were available in the 1990’s could please spare me an hour or so (in return for coffee, biscuits and maybe some rare wood!) I would be really grateful.
I’m in Kippford.
If you fancy this challenge please call me on 07909681349 or 01556620672
Very many thanks,
Mick Schofield
