I brought some green-ish Beech logs to the Workshop for use during the hollowing workshop and there are lots left over. Available free to any member, most are about 4″ diameter and 8″ plus long.

Lathe for Sale
Record DML24 lathe for sale in Dalbeattie, including drive and revolving centres, face plate. Price £100.
Good starter lathe. The Club has one of these in the workshop.

Sharpening Workshop Part 2 report
The session started off with just a couple of members but a few more joined us later so we had a useful afternoon. We went through sharpening all the standard tools freehand and using a jig. Newly sharpened tools were tested on a spindle, outside of a bowl or inside of a bowl as appropriate.
A good number of tools left the workshop in a better state than when they arrived !
Tool Sharpening using a dry grinder
The Club recently ran a workshop on sharpening tools using the Sorby Pro-edge.
The Club has scheduled another workshop for members that use a dry grinder, or are trying to decide which method to use.
Sunday 14 August, 13.00 – 16.30 (1pm to 4.30pm) at the Workshop of course. No need to book, just turn up at 13.00 bringing your grinder, jig if you have one and tools to be sharpened.
Have a go at hollowing
I’ll bring a few green beech logs to the workshop on Tuesday so that anyone that wants can have a go at hollowing using the Club hollowing tools.

Bowl centre saver demo
A couple of members have shown interest in seeing a bowl centre saver in action and maybe having a go themselves. At Turning Tuesday on 3 May, I’m going to bring along my Kel McNaughton centre saver and make some shavings.
If you know of another member who may be interested but is NOT on our website’s email list, please tell them.
