A few people have asked for a copy of the safe lathe speed tables that Roger mentioned at the last meeting so I have put them in a page in our library:

Well it was a close contest, but congratulations go to Bryan Jardine, Club Champion 2015!
Jake, feel free to check my figures in case I’ve missed point off anywhere 🙂

The workshop will be open as normal 7pm-9pm on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings throughout the festive period.
The workshop will also be open all day on Tuesday 29th December from 10am. I will be spending the day doing workshop stuff so feel free to pop in and help or do some turning with your new tools from Santa 🙂
Buy yourselves an early Christmas present! We now have suppliers of T-shirts and woodturning smocks with the new club logo:

Susan Colley has been given a large amount of fabric which would be suitable for upholstery so f anyone has an old favourite shed chair that needs a new cover, this could do the job.
Susan will bring a sample of each fabric next time she’s down at the workshop.
Has anyone found a pair of glasses in a brown case at the workshop and maybe put them safe somewhere?
Actually, this seems to occur fairly frequently so does anyone have any tips for not losing your glasses in the workshop?!?
A few people have asked me what’s happening with the pile of firewood accumulating at the club and I wasn’t sure whether we should give it away or sell if for funds for the club. We’ve decided that members are free to share it amongst themselves and to make a donation to the “wood” jar if they want to.
This will be the same for offcuts from the bandsaw as and when we bag them up in future.
Also, we are accumulating a lot of shavings so if anyone has a use for these let me know otherwise they’ll be taken to the tip.
Cheers, Phil
As the next competition item is a bowl with textured decoration, I’ll have my texturing tool at Turning Tuesday tomorrow night (26 May) if anyone wants to try it out. I’ll leave it in the workshop for the Wednesday folks as well.
The club has very generously been offered some freshly felled elm which Jake and I plan to start tackling on Sunday morning from about 9am. If you have a chainsaw and/or trailer and/or can just lend a hand moving wood about then we would greatly appreciate your assistance. (Please remember your safety gear if you are bringing your chainsaw).
The location is Barwhinnock House near Twynholm (DG6 4PF). The gateway is on the A75 west of Twyholm. If you’re heading west, go past both Twynholm exits and the gateway is on the right but it’s where the overtaking lane is so you may prefer to go past, turn at the next junction and come back.
Whilst the elm is our priority for Sunday we are hoping this will turn into a regular thing because there is quite a bit of other timber available to us including ash, beech and birch.
