Tesco Bags of Help

Dear All,

Please be aware that our application to the Tesco Bags of Help Grant Scheme has been successful and our project is being put forward to a customer vote during November and December 2018.

Do remember that every time you shop in Tesco, Castle Douglas over the next few weeks to ask for a voting token, (it has been our experience that they are not always offered at the checkout), and to use it for the benefit of the club.

The more tokens we amass the more funds we may be awarded ~ so ask your relatives and friends to help as well.

A message for Rolf
A friend who is moving house from Rockcliffe has some wood which she has offered to me. Perhaps the club could use it ?
Would Rolf meets me down there sometime soon to have a look ant it ?
I will take my trailer.

Cherry wood

I have some cherry that was recently felled. Pieces up to about 10” diameter but very wet of course. Donation to club funds. Collect from Kippford. First come, first served!

Please let me know by 27th October if you’re interested because I have to shift it by the end of the month.

Better Bowls Workshop

The Better Bowls Workshop will take place on this Saturday (6th October) starting at 10 am and finishing at 4pm.

I have the following people listed

Ken, Jimmy, Raymond, Andrew, Robert, and  Arthur

and I believe Jimmy is having to work (don’t worry Jimmy, you will grow out of this work thing) but I would rather not replace him as this still leaves 5 on the workshop with the space for Jimmy to join us for part of the day if he can/ wants to.

As is the case for my previous bowls courses, bring your own lunch, £10 for the course, but more importantly your ideas, wood blanks (or buy a blank form the club’s stock) or a previous bowl you have made. Some of your earlier bowls can be remade as we tend to make them fairly chunky and now have the skill to ‘lighten’ them with a slightly improved form, with thinner walls and space for decoration. Lets see your previous bowls at the start of the session and we can see how much better our bowls are at the end of the workshop.

This is not a course, but a workshop, so we have no set ‘lesson plan’ or formal ‘aims and objectives’ I will provide a setting where we can learn from each other, but also give what guidance and experience I can from the 12 years that I have been making bowls, plates and boxes. We will have fun, gain confidence, become wiser, safer and more adventurous.

Inter Club Competition, Brampton 28th October.

Dear All,

I have been asked to remind you about the Inter Club Competition, Brampton 28th October.

Our club entry should have been confirmed by the end of September.

However, we hope to be allowed a stay of execution and we invite our members to bring possible entries to the October Club Meeting for assessment.

If we do not get an adequate response, (5 per club required), we will have to withdraw from the event.

2018 AGM Re-announcement please note the start time

Oops!!

Dear Member,

I have overlooked the fact that at our last AGM the timing of the meeting was discussed because with a 6.30pm start it is difficult for some members to arrive in time. It was agreed that in future the AGM would start at 7.00pm (as with any Club night), and a shortened club meeting would follow.

Therefore, I am re-announcing the holding of our 2018 AGM.

So please note that the meeting will commence at the usual time of 7.00pm.

Please accept my sincere apologies for any confusion this slip-up may have caused.

David
