A reminder that this Saturday, 11th May is our ‘In the Green’ workshop on the joys of turning green wood. We’ll discuss what to do with all the wood that we ‘acquire’, which usually splits so much that it’s useless before we get round to doing something with it !

Rick Dobney Demonstration and Masterclass
Our next professional demonstration and masterclass will be given by Rick Dobney over the weekend of 1st and 2nd June.
During his demonstration on Saturday 1st June Rick will make a multi axis candlestick and a multi axis box.

Tickets for this demonstration are available from Jimmy in the shop ~ please get yours early and thereby help the caterers know how many to expect.
Those who sign up for the masterclass on Sunday 2nd June will have the opportunity to learn to make both of these items ~ however, there are only 4 places available for this so register your interest and buy a ticket from Jimmy in the shop as quickly as possible, first come first served!
During the masterclass, participants should bring what they’d like to use to decorate the box to their personal tastes. For example, various colourings, texturing tools, spirit dyes, gilt cream, acrylic paints, iridescent / interference paints, pyrography tools, carving and texturing bits and burrs, etc.
These promise to be a couple of interesting and inspiring days.
Ticket prices
Demonstration; Saturday 1st June, 10.00am to 4.00pm at the workshop, lunch, teas/coffee provided. £20
Masterclass; Sunday 2nd June, 10.00am to 4.00pm at the workshop. £50
Peter Osborne Demo and Masterclass
Following a very instructive and interesting demonstration at our club meeting on Tuesday 9th April we had an excellent masterclass on Wednesday.
Those of us who attended appreciated the opportunity and guidance to attempt something we might otherwise have thought beyond us. However, as you can see from the photo, we all went home with something to finish off in our own workshop and enthused to plan our next ‘rough around the edges’ project.
Thanks again Pete and I hope we will see you back at our club soon.

Lapsed Membership
Hello, All,
I am bringing the membership list up to date, and I shall shortly be emailing everyone who was a member of the club last year, but who does not appear to have paid their subscription for the current year. Please rest assured that I am not singling anyone out or trying to harass anyone into paying. We are not permitted to keep data indefinitely for anyone who is no longer a member, so before I delete anyone’s details, I want to check that they have not just forgotten to pay.
Just as a reminder, subs of £35 were due in Oct 18. A grace period was given until Christmas for those with failing memories or empty wallets. Since Christmas, a list of paid-up members has been displayed in the workshop. If your name is NOT on that list, you may not use the club equipment until such time as the situation is rectified. If you believe you have paid, but your name is not on the list, please speak to me or to any committe member. The names of members who have recently joined may not yet be on the list. I shall rectify that situation as soon as possible, certainly by next week.

Professional Turner Peter Osborn visits Galloway Woodturners
Tuesday 9th April 2019 (next Tuesday’s club night) sees Peter Osborn, professional demonstrator, entertain, enlighten and inspire us.
Please make a special effort to come along, and feel free to bring a friend, or spouse/partner for a most interesting demonstration.
If you want to know more about Peter a good starting point would be the web site of the Register of Professional Turners. https://www.registerofprofessionalturners.co.uk/turners/pete-osborn/
There are still a couple of places available for his Masterclass the following day Wednesday 10th April, and I would love it if you could be part of the day’s teaching by Peter. Jimmy has tickets in the shop, so message him, or see him right at the start of the Tuesday demonstration to get your ticket.

Demonstration & Masterclass at Galloway Woodturners 9th &10th April 2019
My intention is to demonstrate 2 Natural Edge Dishes from a log on the Tuesday evening.
On the Wednesday at the Masterclass I am intending to carry on the Natural Edge theme & have in mind Natural Edge Vases with the possibility of Natural Edge Goblets and/or dishes similar to the ones from the previous evening.
I will be bringing some logs of about 8” long & about 4” diameter. I will also have with me some pieces suitable for Goblets & Dishes.
If any Masterclass members had pieces of wood that they particularly wanted to use, then they could bring them along & we can see if they can be used.
I will also be bringing a few different types of Hollowing tools, which people could have a ‘go’ with.
Again if people wanted to bring their own, it might be quite useful.
Regards, Pete Osborn

Eugene Masterclass
For those who are going on the Masterclass Eugene has sent the following:
Hi Roger,
My fault but all dimensions are in mm. However, the 15 x 15 section does have to be gripped in a chuck. My Record/Nova chucks will just grip this but I forgot to consider your chucks. It might be better to go up to 20 x 20 mm or whatever size is handiest for you.
Eugene
