Galloway Woodturners

We're in Galloway and we turn wood

AGM for 2020

Normally the Galloway Woodturners have the AGM in October each year, but this year is far from usual. The committee have therefore been keeping an eye out on government guidelines and restrictions to see how we can hold the AGM.

Our constitution states

“An Annual General Meeting shall be called as soon as possible after the close of the Club’s financial year on the last day of August. A Quorum of the meeting shall be 25 per cent of the paid up membership to include at least two Officers.

  • The ordinary business to be transacted at each Annual General Meeting shall be:
    1. To receive and adopt the Chairman’s report of the previous years working.
    2. To receive and adopt the Treasurers report and the statement of account covering the financial affairs of the previous year.
    3. To elect Chairman, Officers and Members of the Committee for the following year.
    4. To elect an Honorary Auditor to verify the financial status of the Club.
    5. To fix the Annual Subscription for the coming year following submission of a Committee recommendation.
    6. Any other business that the Chairman of the AGM may seem fit.

… and …..

  • Notice of the place, time and date of the Annual General Meeting shall be circulated to all paid up members not less than thirty days before the time of the meeting.”

As it is not possible to hold the 2020 AGM in the normal way, or at the normal time the committee have agreed that the AGM will take place on Tuesday 8th December 2020 at 7pm and that it will be done via Zoom, the code, or link, will be sent to you all nearer the day.

The annual subs are also normally due in October but this year we have decided that payment is not due until December, and all existing members need only pay half the membership subs (currently £35 per annum). New members, from 1st January 2021 will pay the full rate. Payment can be made to Jimmy at the shop, but also via BACS payment directly to our bank account, again instructions will be sent to you by email.

Our treasurer assures us that our finances are strong enough to see us through  this rough patch so long as it does not go on too long. Thankfully we have recently been able to update our tools and equipment so there are no big expenses for replacement looming.

Jimmy has our shop well stocked and continues to open for us on Thursdays, for those who have pre-booked a slot for the workshop. Those attending Bill’s Tuesday evenings can order abrasives, sealer, kits etc from Jimmy and we will arrange for them to be delivered. Bill and Jimmy have volunteered to deliver locally and Sarah has offered to deliver as far as Newton Stewart.

To sum up, the club is alive and well, but severely restricted at the moment.

The club AGM is the second Tuesday in December (8th) and I ask you to put this in your diary, also ensure you have Zoom installed on your computer.

The subs are not now due until 8th December.

The shop is open and we deliver.

There will be a couple of vacancies in the committee in December so please consider ‘not what the club can do for you, but what you can do for your club’.

The club annual competition winner will be announced at the AGM and the trophies awarded then (delivered to the winners homes).

Rolf Buwert (Chairman)
