About the ClubGalloway Woodturners is a club for woodturners in Dumfries and Galloway. Established in 2007, the club is open to anyone interested in woodturning: male or female, young or not-so-young, experienced or complete beginners; or anyone who is just interested in finding out more about woodturning. Monthly Club Meetings- Visitors are Welcome! Second Tuesday of the month (except January and July usually) Meetings run from 7-9 pm and take the form of a talk or demonstration on a particular topic. We run a competition each month. It usually is on a theme taken from the previous month’s meeting topic. The main aim of the competition is to encourage everyone to turn more and maybe try their hand at something they might have otherwise have missed. |
Turning Tuesdays and Project Wednesday. For Members. Visitors are welcome to come and have a look. Every Tuesday and Wednesday except for Club nights and seasonal breaks. These are less formal gatherings from 7-9pm where members meet to turn, share advice and exchange wood in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Sometimes we might have a theme running for a few weeks on something like hollowing for example. These are not courses, but advice is available from other members. We are happy for non-members to call in and see what we are about and see what we do, but it should be clearly understood that our insurance does not allow non-members to use our equipment. Woodturning can be dangerous and we care about our members and visitors, and want them to have a fun, safe experience. Therefore, we would like all club members, and course participants, to demonstrate a basic knowledge of workshop safety before they use any club machinery or tools. Visitors should therefore not expect to have-a-go when they come, but our members will be happy to show them what can be done, and if the visitors like what they see we can sign them up for a Taster Session, Introduction to Woodturning Course, or one of our other courses as appropriate from one of our qualified tutors. Currently the annual membership is £40. |
